Tom Waits - WIP 1

Here is the first 4 or so hours of my progress on this Tom Waits piece. Enjoy. With the week coming up I'm hoping that I'll have time to work on it.

New WIP -Tom Waits Sketch

I had the song "Clap Hands" stuck in my head all day. So, I decided to make a drawing of my favorite musician Tom Waits. I've only just begun. Not enough to share yet, but I wanted you all (yes, all two of you) to know that I am working.

I should have something to share in a few days.

I'm doing this from a photo I found online. No copyright infringement is intended. I'm using a one inch grid to help me stay accurate. Even with the grid and photo it is a challenge.

I also went online and printed out some other photos that I'd like to draw. Now I have enough to help me stay busy drawing for weeks....if not months.

Orc Sketch

Decided to work on something other than eyes for a change.  Just did some sketches of an orc's face.  Then decided to try to transfer the pencil drawing to a Bristol Board by retracing the image with a very heavy hand over top of the board.  It didn't work. 

Here's what I did tonight:

My "First" Drawing

This is my first attempt at a drawing since getting back into art after a 15 year hiatus.  This is the very first thing I've decided to draw.  There was no warm up, no preliminary sketches, etc.  I didn't use a ruler, or any tools other than two different pencils and an eraser.  It took about 2 and a half hours.

This is the view from the left most seat on my living room couch.  I decided not to center it in the frame just because I thought it looked a little cooler that way.

I can tell from looking at it that I need some work.  The composition leaves something to be desired, the perspective is off, and the scale isn't very good.....of course, you'd have to be looking at my living room to know that. 

I'm hoping for any comments or criticisms on this drawing.  I'm hoping to use this as a baseline for future comparison.
