So what ever happened to my Tom Waits drawing? Well, life happened. I've had one more session and made some progress. I need one more session (maybe two) to finish. But, In the last few weeks I've had a major project at work, and everyone in my family has ended up sick at one point. There hasn't been much time to draw. I've made a few sketches, but nothing worth posting.
Look forward to hearing about my most recent purchase....

New WIP -Tom Waits Sketch
I had the song "Clap Hands" stuck in my head all day. So, I decided to make a drawing of my favorite musician Tom Waits. I've only just begun. Not enough to share yet, but I wanted you all (yes, all two of you) to know that I am working.
I should have something to share in a few days.
I'm doing this from a photo I found online. No copyright infringement is intended. I'm using a one inch grid to help me stay accurate. Even with the grid and photo it is a challenge.
I also went online and printed out some other photos that I'd like to draw. Now I have enough to help me stay busy drawing for weeks....if not months.

Hellboy 1
Here is my first attempt at drawing one of my favorite comic characters; Hellboy. At first I was just going to do this with a graphite pencil, but decided after the initial sketch to fill it in with colored pencil.

Manga First Attempt
Here is my first attempt at doing anything in a manga style. When I was younger I had "no interest" in doing anything in a cartoony style. And by "no interest" I mean that I had no confidence. It surprising how much you can hide in a more naturalistic style. I had no confidence in my lines. So, I'm now trying this for the first time with a healthy respect for this style.

Back in the Saddle
The last ten months have been perhaps the busiest months of my life. I can't remember a time when I've been this busy for such a prolonged period of time. But, the good news is that this period of insanity is coming to an end. This weekend I sat down and spent some time drawing for the first time since summer.
I decided to start making some attempts at drawing in a manga style. I've always liked that style but never thought that I could do it. I made my first attempt yesterday and I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. I'll scan and upload it when I get a chance. But, my computer at home has died. So, I'll have to take care of this on another day.
Glad to be back.

Writing All Over Again as well...
Though I haven't been able to keep up with this blog as much as I would like, it has been a creative outlet for me. It's awakened a certain creative spirit in me that has long been stifled. This muse seems to be unaware that I don't have the time for it.
For years I've thought about writing. I've gone so far as to create settings and characters. But, they've only seen the inside of my head and never a page. Recently I've really been thinking more and more about these ideas. I feel the need to write them down. So, now I'm not only struggling to find time to draw....but I'm also trying to find time to write. Sheesh!
Check out my new blog.....though give it some time. I haven't actually written anything yet.

My Father's Day Gift
I was given a few precious moments to work on my drawing today. Those moments are hard to come by when you have four kids, including a 5 week old infant.
For some reason the scan came out a little blurry. Not sure why that is. I'm not overly pleased with the teeth or the helmet, but the rest of the drawing is pretty good. I'll take it, because I'm ready to move onto something different.

And then it ended!
Oh. I love the weekends. I actually got to draw for a few hours this weekend. And it charged me up so much that I really want to keep drawing. But, then Monday hits and time slips away. It's so hard to get any time on the weekdays. I'm lucky if I get one night per week.
So, c'mon weekend! I have a drawing to finish.
